Cal “Brussels” Band Reunion

It’s now just six+ weeks until our luncheon reunion gathering on Friday, June 22nd. It’s been a few months since I last wrote asking you to save the date. We are planning to have 3-4 hours together on campus visiting our old Cal Band buddies and friends, reminiscing about that special six month period in our lives, from “the invitation” to return to Berkeley, hearing anew about each other’s lives and family, re-viewing videos of the trip and performances, and perhaps even tuning up our voices for a rendition of “Berkeley to Brussels”.

Now some specifics:
11 am Meet together on Wheeler Hall steps to re-live Ralph Edwards’ “Truth or Consequences” nationwide telecast as a Trailways bus rounded the corner to prove the reality of the forthcoming trip.

Then we’ll walk slowly through Eshleman Court, perhaps pausing in a block formation as we once did there and remember what Room 5 meant to us.

Passing Pappy’s statue we’ll continue to the Faculty Club where we’ll spend the next few hours together. If you don’t feel up to the slow walk from Wheeler to the Faculty Club, just join us at the latter and relax there awaiting us.

Cost per person for the Faculty Club event: $ 70.00 . This includes a 3-course luncheon with a choice among 3 entrees, coffee/tea service, use of the Howard room for the entirety of our reunion, service of a bar attendant (no-host), and Audio/Visual.

Parking alternatives: Available to us are ten permits for parking at the nearby Bancroft lot just west of College Way at $ 18 each vehicle (full day use). Other parking lots – Stadium structure on Gayley Road (about $4/hour) and on Durant just west of Telegraph. We’ll check on other possibilities. BART and bus combinations are possible at either Rockridge + 51B bus to campus, or Downtown Berkeley.

For those interested, we may be able to arrange a group campus tour about mid-afternoon (with golf cart possibilities) after our reunion luncheon.

All Faculty Club, charges will be to my personal credit card, so advance payment to me is necessary of the $ 70 each plus optional $18 Bancroft parking permit (first come first served until all 10 are gone). Payment form options: check to Hugh Barnett, 497 Mill River Lane, San Jose CA 95134; or bank-to-bank transfer via PayPal or Zelle (to my email ). No credit card option.

Please confirm to me soon, by email or landline response (408-435-1172), to I can have an accurate count for tables and seating. And I need your choice(s) below.

Entrée choices: Asparagus Chicken, Grilled New York Steak, or Portabella Mushroom Ravioli. No choices on the salad (Caesar) or dessert tart – both provided.

I’ll send a final reminder email to you about June 10th. I’m aware some of you are not able to join our late Spring reunion, and hope you consider alternately joining some of us at the biannual CBAA reunion (for all Cal Band alumni) on Friday night Nov. 16th - likely at Spengers on Big Game eve when the Cal Band entertains. Email me in early October if interested in info and cost.

I really hope you are able to join us. Send something for us to read to the group if you are unable to attend. Go Bears!
